Fall Camporee Our last camporee was great. We had 8 or 9 scouts go, most of which just recently crossed over. Unfortunately, John, Franklin and Ben didn't come so I was left in charge for the weekend. I didn't think I was ready for the job, but somehow the weekend went by smoothly.
We had many events including fire building, knot tying, compass course, rifle shooting, backpack packing, and cooking. Out of all these competitions, we only won second place in knot tying. I blame John, Ben and Franklin not coming as the reason we stunk.
At the end of the camporee, the awards were given out, and somehow we won the "Spirit" drum award. The camporee was all about us finding the spirit award, because we lost it, and we won it. It was an amazing camporee. - Damien
2-Night Campout, Bryson City, North Carolina | Photos Another weekend and another Trip for Troop 119. This time we invaded Bryson City, NC. Saturday morning we woke up to hard rain but we bunkered down under the canopy until it passed. We took a 3/4-mile hike to Juney Whank Falls and returned to camp to throw on our backpacks and grab some snacks before heading out on a 5-mile hike around the Deep Creek Loop Trail. The boys were all pushing hard on this trail because they all had their mind set on one objective. "Getting back and going tubing." We got back after about three hours of hiking and had a quick lunch and it was then off to Deep Creek for a whitewater tubing adventure. The water was extremely cold but our boys did not mind; they were all in the water and swimming in no time. Most of the boys tubed down the creek several times and had a blast. That night, it was time to feed the hungry crowd. We grilled hamburgers and hot dogs in addition to chicken and pork chops, so there was plenty of food to go around. Ice cream for dessert. What a great trip!
Smoky Mountain Ziplines, Pigeon Forge Tennessee | Photos Troop 119 out for adventure again! This time we embarked on Smoky Mountain Ziplines and what a day it was. The boys started out with a long trip up the mountain in the back of an army personnel mover. Once at the top of the high mountain, our guides trained the boys on braking and hand signals. Once training was done, it was time to zip down the high lines at extreme speeds. Everyone had a great time and cannot wait to go back. Thanks to Smoky Mountain Zip Lines for being a proud supporter of Boy Scouting and Troop 119!
